The Daily Show host on Donald Trump's Assertion of Not Knowing Regarding His Personal MRI: 'It's Not Physically Possible'.
Comedy show hosts this week trained their comedic fire on former President Donald Trump, lambasting his employment of a ableist slur and what they described as unconvincing attempts to alleviate public concerns about his cognitive health.
Jon Stewart's Pointed Commentary
Beginning his monologue, Jon Stewart focused on a controversial post in which Trump referred to Minnesota Governor Tim Walz with a widely condemned slur. "On Thanksgiving?!" Stewart remarked. "Are you confusing that with Festivus?"
When asked later if he felt any remorse, Trump reportedly doubled down, insisting there was "something seriously wrong" with the Democratic governor.
"Something wrong with him? With him?" Stewart retorted. "You were sitting with your family at Thanksgiving, belly full of turkey and pie, enveloped in the love of your extended crime family, but your initial instinct was to post an insult at Tim Walz? And thereās something wrong with him?"
The comedian then addressed Trump's bizarre explanation of a recently revealed medical scan. In an effort to dismiss concerns, Trump claimed he had "no idea" what part of his body was even scanned, suggesting it "couldn't have been his brain" because he "took a cognitive test."
"Thatās not physically possible," Stewart shot back. "Being completely unaware, itās not possible. What would you say to the doctor? āWait, stop, donāt tell me. I want to find out at my MRI reveal party.ā"
He added, "For Godās sakes, man, were you not the least bit interested? When they placed you in a tube for 30 to 45 minutes, you didnāt want to know what they might be doing? Or did you just think to yourself, āWhat a loud tanning bedā?"
Stewart also mocked Trump's assertion of a "flawless result" on the scan. "Apparently, that's the way they score the MRIs," he quipped. "It's either a big stamp, āPerfect,ā or you get in red ink, āSee me.ā"
The Late Show's Satirical Take
On his own program, Stephen Colbert pointed out growing discontent among some one-time allies. "Certain supporters are starting to notice that Trump treats them like livestock," he said, citing anger about funding a luxury ballroom over addressing affordability concerns.
"Elsewhere, Trump celebrated Thanksgiving in his traditional way ā with racism," Colbert quipped, referring to an anti-immigrant rant from the weekend. "Amidst all of that nonsense," he recapped, the president also used the ableist slur against Governor Walz.
After Walz challenged him to "Release the MRI results," Trump promised do so, despite his stated unawareness of what was scanned.
"Uh, hereās a theory: maybe the part thatās malfunctioning is the part thatās supposed to know," Colbert noted.
He then poked fun at the follow-up White House justificationāa medical note stating the MRI was for preventative screening. "OK, fair enough," Colbert said. "People his age also benefit from retiring, so ⦠can we write that prescription next?"
Jimmy Kimmel's Direct Criticism
Jimmy Kimmel likewise blasted Trump's use of the slur. "See, he can be presidential when he wants to be!" he joked. "It's puzzling why he didnāt get that Nobel peace prize. It makes no sense."
Regarding Trump's subsequent statement that he thinks "there is a problem" with Walz, Kimmel was direct: "yet another profound insight from the president of the eighth grade."
Kimmel also touched on Trump's insistence of unprecedented approval ratings. "This indicates itās not just books he canāt read," Kimmel remarked, pointing to survey data showing significant disapproval. "There are gas station bathrooms on Yelp with better reviews than Donald Trump right now."
The host finished by highlighting Trump's promise to grant clemency to a imprisoned international drug trafficker. "Now some have pointed out the unbelievable hypocrisy of Trump tough on drugs elsewhere, while simultaneously pardoning a man who sent a massive quantity of cocaine to this country," said Kimmel. "But those people are just haters and losers, you know? Lighten up!"
"During his campaign, Trump made it very clear: his top priorities were a) pardoning drug kingpins and b) constructing a venue to ballroom dance," he summarized. "Commitments stated, pledges fulfilled."
