The anticipation about this year's gaming ceremony has been intense, especially after host Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling photo of a strange statue. The secret has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is creating a fresh Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was showcased with a daring trailer that included memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the very opening of infernal gates.
A Different Direction
For those hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio clarified that a follow-up to its beloved RPGs is not on the cards right now.
However, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This distinction implies that the team could be crafting a faster-paced experience as opposed to another tactical title. For now, it remains theory, as only a teaser video is available.
What Makes Divinity Special
The Divinity series is universally respected and many say it pioneered the contemporary revival of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are defined by rich lore, branching plots, and flexible progression—elements that recently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its universe is classic fantasy, what makes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust bestowed upon the player.
In contrast to modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is full of niche playthroughs you can achieve by choosing a distinct build with a personal story.
The series is also wonderfully flexible, enabling players to experiment both in story and combat. Most missions can be solved in diverse methods, sometimes in surprising fashion.
- You might find an answer because you remembered something a dog told you.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a inventive way.
More to Come
It is precisely these elements that have cemented the series to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games of all time. Now, players can look forward to more where that came from in this legendary franchise.
